Having concentrated on the fundamental SIA requirements for security guard training, PRIMEprotection is now in the process of expanding its portfolio of courses.

The list below gives an overview of the current and proposed SIA training requirements.

C&G Level 2 Certificate for Security Guards (1902)

This is the core competency course for Security Guarding and sets the minimum standard required in order to apply for a SIA license to act as a Security Guard. This is a two-part training course delivered on consecutive days with an examination at the end of each part.

C&G Level 2 Certificate for Door Supervisors (1900)

The overall aim of this course is to ensure that door supervisors have the required level of knowledge and understanding of their role and responsibilities in this sector of the security industry. This is a two part training course delivered on consecutive days with an examination at the end of each part.

Vehicle Immobilising

The aim of this course is to ensure that operators working in this sector of the industry receive the correct training which in turn will qualify them to apply for the SIA Licence for vehicle immobilisers. This is a two part training course delivered on consecutive days with an examination at the end of each part.

Cash & Valuables In Transit (CVIT)

The aim of this course is to introduce Cash and Valuables in Transit operatives to their roles and responsibilities and to the industry in general. This is a two part training course delivered on consecutive days with an examination at the end of each part.

Level 2 Certificate for CCTV Operators (Public Space Surveillance 1904)

This is a single part course which takes into account the changing roles of those already employed in the industry. The course seeks to ensure that all operatives have achieved the correct level of competence to apply for the SIA licence. This is a single part course and examination.

Close Protection

This course sets the standard for training within the industry. On completion of the course and on applying for a licence, separate proof or evidence will be required showing that applicants are also in possession of a recognised first aid award.

Private Investigation

The competencies for this course are currently under review by the SIA. A course will be developed once these have been finalised by the SIA.

Security Consultancy

Key Holding

Contrary to popular belief, there is no competency requirement for key holding. This is because the Private Security Industry Act 2001 defines key holding solely as holding keys and does not include activities relating to a security response. This topic has been included for your information.

C&G Level 2 Certificate in Conflict Management (1884)

Attacks in the workplace can be verbal or physical, either can have a devastating effect on those involved, affecting both confidence and morale as well as unnerving whole departments. This course is aimed at giving employees greater confidence in their own ability to handle potentially volatile situations. Where required, this course can be delivered to City and Guilds 1884 Standard and have a formal qualification awarded.

Evidence Gathering

This course is designed for security personnel who may be required, through their activities, to give evidence in court. For example, those involved in eviction work.

Media Security Advisors

This course is designed for security personnel tasked to look after media personnel deployed on potentially volatile assignments e.g. Public Order events.

Edged Weapon Awareness and Assault Resistance

This course is designed to give delegates an insight into assault resistance techniques when faced with a threat from edged weapons. Theory is supported by practical demonstrations and exercises carried out in a controlled and safe environment.
