THE TASK: 24 hour support and cover for facilities, audience and resources at the Royal Cornwall Show
For this popular public event, Prime were firstly responsible for ensuring the security of BBC assets during construction, including expensive equipment and the BBC broadcast position. During the event the team ensured the safety of BBC staff, guests and their audience. With stormy weather before and after the event, our team also dealt proactively with more than one crisis situation.
THE TEAM: A personable approach and positive actions builds trust quickly
BBC Radio Cornwall had struggled to find a security team who could engage with the public and staff and think outside the standard security role. We put together a team with the right approach and communication skills, as well as a team leader, to build a positive relationship with BBC staff. Our staff always offered to help with odd jobs to make things run smoothly – unloading vans and laying out seating. The client never needed to step in and the team remained vigilant and responsive during busy 12 hour shifts.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT: Proactive action saves the day in stormy weather
Our resourceful staff work hard and react quickly in a crisis. This event was no exception. During a night shift a storm caused heavy leaking threatening electrical equipment. Prime’s guards repositioned a large amount of equipment and prevented inevitable damage.
Later yet another storm brought the marquee to the point of collapse. Not only did the team quickly and safely evacuate the marquee but managed to re-tension the main straps to correct the fault. Just 45 minutes of the schedule was lost. Such quick thinking and action was greatly appreciated by the client and guests.
THE NEXT STEP: Exceeding expectations
Going beyond the call of duty meant a successful event for all. We exceeded the client’s expectations and Prime has now returned to the show with the same team for the last four years. With good management, we look for further ways to improve year on year.
